Windows 10: Leaked image reveals early build of Microsoft's new 'Spartan' web browser

Back in September, Neowin exclusively revealed details of a new leaner version of Internet Explorer, which Microsoft was developing for its new Windows 10 OS. In the weeks and months that have followed since then, more details have emerged about the company's plans, including the revelation that the new web browser - which is being developed under the internal codename 'Spartan' - may not carry Internet Explorer branding at all.
The new lightweight browser looks set to be Spartan in both name and nature, with a stripped-down user interface, and support for adding features through third-party plug-ins. More info emerged today, thanks to information revealed by a source to BGR.
The source revealed a screenshot which they claim shows a development build of Spartan, featuring design elements that have since been replaced in newer builds. This particular build is said to belong to the second internal release of the browser, which was completed in November, and replaced by a newer version shortly before Christmas. It is likely that the final version will adhere more closely to Microsoft's Modern design language guidelines.
The source also revealed details about some of Spartan's capabilities, including the ability to launch a web page, add to favorites, set as homepage, and execute various other commands through voice interactions - most likely through Cortana integration in Windows 10.
A second feature sounds rather curious, and is described as the ability 'to run different browsers' within Spartan itself. The report explains that "users could split the browser into four windows that would be showing them four different ways to seeing [sic] a website or online application, as long as those browsers are also installed on the same device."
We may find out more about the new browser at the event that Microsoft has scheduled for January 21, at which it will reveal more on Windows 10, including some of its consumer-focused features.
